UCAP #466 - "Crush Your Soul"

Postby AirportDude » Mon Jan 07, 2019 3:56 pm

So has a formal, standardized Skyhawk Unit been established yet? Plus, will this be a measurement of distance, time, or speed?

I propose the "Skyhawk" as 385 nm, or 3.5 hours @ 110 knots.

And Jack, I don't remember exactly which airport you and Jeb mentioned in the podcast, but you're surprisingly (to me at least) well within one Skyhawk of several Lehigh Valley airports with good on-field eateries.

Interestingly enough, the 385 nautical mile distance is nearly equivalent to the distance between Charlotte, NC (CLT) to Philadelphia, PA (PHL). In the same distance covered, 1 Skyhawk Unit of 3.5 hours equates to 1 Airline Unit of 4 hours, given that the proposed flight time by airline is 1.5 hours, adding 2 hours to TSA Checkpoint/Gate time, and 30 mins baggage claim time.

Therefore, 1 Skyhawk Unit (SHU) can be said to be 1.4 Airline Unit (AU). Conversely, 1 AU = .87 SHU, or 7/8 of a SHU.

It seems that the unit conversion does not scale linearly with distance. Clearly more research is required. Are there any grants available for funding? :D :D :D
