iPods and iPhone Apps

Postby Punky » Fri Aug 15, 2008 8:14 am

Well - it's been a tad over a month since the iPod/iPhone App Store has opened.

Just wondering if any iPod/iPhone users out there have had a chance to sample some of the Aviation Apps available?

There are a few there already and I know of several more very useful/practical ones that are already "at" the App Store but is just waiting to be pushed out to the servers for publishing.

Actually - here's the better question...

What sort of Apps are pilots looking for?

I've never uploaded a file before - just seeing how it works... the preview here doesn't actually show it so I'm curious about the posted version.

is that an iphone app? What's it called?

Of no real use, but one iphone app we were having fun with at OSH is Attitude. We were all trying to decide if this was an acceptable backup AI. ... But that was probably just the Leinie's talking.

Yeah I saw that one.
Looks very well done.
Think I'll have to buy it and offer my support.

Or look at it another way... You could use it as an AI for your walk back to your campsite after few Leinie's at OSH!

All right, I just wrote up a nice, clever, and gramatically perfect posting and the computer or website ate it, so this is going to be short. Dave, I would love to see a logbook app that paralleled zululog.com, since I think they have a good layout (not to mention free). Ideally, this would interface and upload to them, but that is probably asking a bit much. However, something that I could use to record all the various components of a flight for later inputing to my logbook would be cool.

I'm sure that I'll have plenty of ideas later, but for now I'm happy knowing that you're available as my personal iTouch/iPhone programmer. I've always said that I'm just an idea guy.

Later,

Hey Joe.
Well you're be pleased to know that I've had that request a few times (sans the link to zulu).. so yeah - it's gonna get done.
Right now just working on a graphical Weight and Balance for all those POH apps that are up.
Almost done.
There's an Eclipse 500 thing that I have to get back onto but the log book app is right up there for sure.

Has anyone tried ForeFlight Mobile?
Pricy for an Iphone app, but seems useful.

Any thoughts?
