Hello there,
I just listened to episode 1107 when you mentioned a high school program that is building RV-12's. There are actually a few highschools across the nation building RV-12's and I used to be a member of a flying club that flew one of them. I always enjoyed the look on passengers' faces when I tell them that the plane was built by high school students. My favorite comment was when I was getting ready to take my wife up in it for the first time and she said "well, I hope they got an A..."
Anyway, the RV-12 is a very fun airplane. It is light on the controls, only burns 4 gallons an hour, and has a bubble canopy with amazing visibility. It isn't as fast as other RV's, but it has that same snappy feel. The Rotax 912is is different from the engines that most of us are used to, but you quickly learn to enjoy how quiet it is (and how fuel efficient).
I will say that our RV-12 liked to pull to the left and some of the members of the club attributes that to it being built by highschool students. I don't know if the builders are to blame for that or not, but other than that it flies great.
Thanks for all of the great podcasting,
Nate W
